Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 Review

After many news articles and wonder, we finally have Poppy Playtime Chapter 2. We had hopes and expectations. We visited the Playtime Co. once again. New horrors, puzzles, and mechanics. The old factory offered us a good game. We will get to the details. But before going further, we must remind you that this game is a direct sequel to the first chapter.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 was a huge hit. It was a well-made horror experience in the most uncanny place ever. Puzzles, the story, and innovative mechanics lead to its popularity amongst gamers. Long story short, we highly recommend you to play Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 before reading this review. Although the game had a price tag when it was first released, it is now free to play(made many gamers angry and heartbroken towards the developers). Well, we warned you. And now, here is all about Poppy Playtime Chapter 2: A Fly in the Web

Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 came out on May 6th, 2022. The first game was such a success that developers made a second chapter in only seven months. They probably had ideas about another release if the first one did well. But I don’t think even the MOB Games were expecting this much attention for their games.

The game improved remarkably. While reading (and writing) articles and news, I expected a good title with a few changes here and there. Even after release, the Mixed reviews on Steam felt like I was right. But now, after reading the reviews and playing the game, I was (mostly) wrong.

First of all, one of the points that I was (kind of) right about was the story. It is engaging. Every step Mommy took me and Poppy doll took me was gripping. The villain in the first game, the Poppy Playtime doll, was helping us throughout the story, which is a BIG red flag if you ask me. Later I thought, you don’t really have a chance.

We need to find three clues so we can run the train. The train looks like our only way out from this hell(or we think it is). We get to this train after waking up where we left off in the First Chapter.

In our journey, we meet with a new gadget. Our new and improved arm will aid us in many ways. Transferring electricity, grappling, and webbing to fly! The green hand does well at adding difficulty and variety to the game. This leads to my next point: Difficulty

From my and many gamers’ experience, the game is relatively easy. Puzzles (especially the ones you need to memorize quickly to stay alive) are clever and require swiftness. The game challenges you just enough to make you shake. MOB Games reminds you in every room that this is a horror game, not a puzzle-solving toy factory tour.

Our new nightmare fuel is Mommy Longlegs. She is terrifying, no doubt about that. Her uncanny smile with spaghetti limbs will follow you until the end(a little spoiler). We loved the tension she put into the game. But I must admit, the unknown creates the horror. You don’t know what your enemy can do. The player’s imagination is a valuable tool that many developers use. We think that MOB Games is using this tool for the Poppy doll.

The visuals were perfect as they were in the First Chapter. The environment is full of story bits and beautiful details. The map is enormous compared to the first game. After finishing Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, I felt like Chapter 1 was the prequel DLC for this game. Also, considering this was three times longer than the first release, I think I am right to feel that way.

Lastly, as I mentioned at the begging, the reviews on Steam are mixed. I was actually scared that I won’t like the game. I thought: ”How am I going to write a bad review about Chapter 2 after admiring the first one?”.

Thankfully, the game wasn’t a trainwreck or even bad. Negative reviews are generally about bugs, which is a real issue in Poppy Playtime Chapter 2. Many players experienced bugs and glitches. Chapter 2 was developed (probably, considering the time between two releases) in seven months, a short time for a DLC like this. But I think developers could play test the game for a month or two.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 is a well-made horror DLC. which gets an 8/10. As Lawod, we can recommend horror fans play Chapter 2. You can find the game on Steam for $9.99.
