Tactics Ogre: Reborn Review

Originally released on the Super Nintendo back in 1995, Tactics Ogre was remastered and ported to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms on 11 November 2022. This article is a review of one of the most significant remakes of the year 2022, Tactics Ogre: Reborn.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is a tactical role-playing game that takes place in the world of the Valerian Isles. It tells a story of revolution, class politics, and war. The story revolves around a boy named Denam who seeks revenge for being subjugated by the Galgastani majority. He also aims to free the Walister people, who the Galgastanis have enslaved for years.

Players must recruit new characters and battle opponents to advance in the game. They can do this from a variety of locations. Once they’ve played through the game enough times, they can level up their character to become a higher rank.

The Story Gets You as You Shape It

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is also an action game that features an intricate, rich story. It’s also a deep, well-written tale of war and rebellion. You’ll get to explore and relive many of the moments that you’ve come to love from the original.

The main story takes place in Galgastan, a country controlled by a powerful regime. The rebellion against this ruling force, led by Denam, escalates into a full-fledged war. As the player’s character, Denam must navigate the political and moral landscape and ultimately reclaim his homeland.

As you play, you’ll make decisions that shape the story. The main character’s allegiances will shift. For instance, if you choose to kill Lanselot, you’ll be setting the character on a different path. If you’re looking for something more sophisticated than Final Fantasy Tactics, then Tactics Ogre: Reborn might be the game for you. Although it’s still a bit obtuse, it’s also a lot more accessible than the original.

Tarot Card System and Revamped Levelling System Are Considered Revolutionary

Players must balance their characters’ skills and weapons in a classic tactical game. They also have to consider the elemental types. This is an important part of the battle, as the wrong moves can lead to the enemy being knocked out.

Another new feature is the tarot card system, which allows players to rewind their tactical outcomes. The tarot card system in Tactics Ogre: Reborn offers more tactical thinking and decision opportunities. This is useful when a tough battle involves catastrophic results.

If you’re a veteran of the genre, you’ll find that the new mechanics are a welcome update. Though the pixel art is ugly, the graphics have been improved to a degree. Likewise, the music has been remixed. Some of the previously intense melodic qualities have been sacrificed for more heavy orchestration.
