WILL: Follow The Light Mods: Improve Your Northern Journey explores how community modifications can make this atmospheric first-person adventure smoother, faster, and more comfortable to play. Developed by TomorrowHead Studio, WILL: Follow The Light follows Will, a lighthouse keeper whose isolated routine is shattered by news of a disaster in his hometown and the disappearance of his only son. His search carries him across freezing northern waters aboard the sailing yacht Molly, through abandoned locations, over snow-covered mountains, and into memories that blur the line between reality and imagination. The game combines realistic sailing, environmental puzzles, dog sled travel, cinematic storytelling, exploration, and a deeply personal narrative about fathers, sons, absence, and responsibility. The growing WILL: Follow The Light mod collection currently focuses on practical quality-of-life improvements, including faster startup and proper PlayStation 5 controller icons. These additions may be small, but they can make the journey more polished without disturbing its lonely atmosphere or carefully paced story.
Follow Will Into The Northern Seas
Will begins his journey as a lighthouse keeper living on a remote northern island. He spends his days guiding distant travelers through dangerous waters, yet he soon becomes the person desperately searching for direction.
After receiving a troubling radio message, Will leaves the safety of the lighthouse and boards Molly. What begins as a rescue mission gradually becomes an emotional examination of his relationships with his son, wife, and father.
The game uses its environments to tell much of that story. Empty coastlines, ruined buildings, frozen machinery, and violent storms create a feeling of isolation even when the landscape appears beautiful. Players are encouraged to observe details rather than rush toward an objective marker.
No-Intro Mod
The No-Intro mod removes the startup and introductory screens that normally appear when launching WILL: Follow The Light. Instead of waiting through repeated logos, players can reach the game more quickly and continue their journey.
This is a simple change, but it becomes useful for players who launch the game frequently, return to individual chapters, or need to restart after adjusting graphical settings.
The mod is only 3 KB in size. Installation involves extracting the downloaded folder and copying its contents into the main game installation directory. Because the instructions require overwriting existing files and folders, players should make a backup before completing the process.
PS5 Controller Button Prompts
The PC version displays Xbox-style button symbols by default, even when the player is using a PlayStation controller. The PS5 Controller Button Prompts mod replaces those symbols with proper DualSense icons.
A total of 19 interface graphics are changed, including face buttons, directional pad symbols, bumpers, and analog stick prompts. This makes puzzle interactions and quick instructions easier to understand for players who naturally think in Cross, Circle, Square, and Triangle inputs.
Unlike some manual modifications, this one does not replace original game data. It adds three new files to the game’s Paks folder, making the installation reversible. Removing those files restores the original Xbox prompts. The mod was created for the current Steam build running on Unreal Engine 5.4, although future changes to the game’s controller assets may require an update.
Learn To Sail The Molly
Sailing is one of the defining systems in WILL: Follow The Light. Molly is not simply a vehicle used between story scenes. Players must understand its controls, read navigation instruments, choose routes, and respond to difficult weather.
The navigation system uses longitude and latitude, giving the journey a believable nautical identity without turning it into a professional sailing examination. The developers designed the mechanics with input from real-world voyagers.
Future mods could make these systems more accessible by adding clearer instrument labels, alternative control layouts, camera adjustments, or optional navigation assistance. More experienced sailors might prefer modifications that introduce additional realism or reduce interface guidance.
Cross The Frozen Wilderness
Not every section of Will’s search takes place at sea. The journey also includes dog sled travel through mountains, narrow trails, and severe blizzards.
These sequences replace the deliberate navigation of the yacht with faster movement and limited visibility. Landmarks can disappear behind the snow, making the environment itself feel like another obstacle.
Visual and accessibility mods could eventually improve these sections through contrast adjustments, field-of-view settings, clearer route indicators, or alternative motion effects.
Solve Environmental Puzzles
Progress often depends on understanding the machinery and structures found throughout the world. Players interact with elevators, weather stations, navigation equipment, frozen doors, and other environmental systems.
The puzzles are connected to the story rather than presented as isolated challenges. Repairing a machine may open a physical route while also revealing another memory or uncomfortable detail from Will’s past.
A future hint mod could help players who want to experience the narrative without remaining stuck on one mechanism. Other possible additions include brighter interaction highlights, larger subtitles, improved puzzle prompts, or chapter-specific assistance.
Install Mods Carefully
Modsportal currently lists two modifications for WILL: Follow The Light, with no dedicated modding tools available. Both additions were uploaded recently, so the community collection is still in its earliest stage.
Always check the supported version and installation instructions before adding a file. Back up important saves and any game data that may be overwritten. Install one mod at a time, then test controller prompts, menus, puzzles, sailing controls, and chapter loading before continuing your main playthrough.
