Scars Above is a surprisingly entertaining and rewarding game you’ll want to play more than once. If you’re a fan of the third-person shooter genre, it’s hard to not be impressed, and that’s not even counting all the trophies you’ll collect on your way to the top of the leaderboards. It’s a long road to the top, but if you are patient enough to wait for the kinks to work out, you should have no trouble racking up the top-notch experience.
The best part is that you’ll have no problem finding a friendly tinkerer willing to share the fun.
The biggest kudos goes to the developers at Mad Head Games, who have done an exceptional job of turning out a high-quality product bound to please various tastes and wallet sizes.
Play as Kate and Use Various Weapons
In Scars Above, you play Kate, a scientist who’s on a mission to investigate the mysterious Metahedron. She’s got a wide range of weapons to choose from, and they all affect enemies in different ways, dealing damage but adding a shock, freeze, or burn effect to the attack.
These effects are also relevant to the environment, as an ice projectile can make water droplets more difficult for enemies, and electricity emitted from the Fire Ray can cause tall grass to ignite into a blaze that damages anything within its reach. All these options come at a cost, though, as they add up to a fairly limited arsenal of weapons.
Fire Ray is the best weapon in the game, with an elemental chain added to the barrel. The chain enables the Fire Ray to generate a constant stream of fire that never deviates from the axis. This makes it one of the best weapons in the game, although its effectiveness is diminished a little by its lack of reload ability.
Aside from the Fire Ray, other elemental weapons are also unlocked, including a corrosive shotgun that deals damage and shocks enemies. These weapons aren’t the best in the game, but they do their job and keep Scars Above fresh.
The combat in Scars Above is interesting and surprisingly fun. You can also use your VERA rifle, an electric semi-automatic gun, a fire rifle that charges up, and ice grenades to deal damage. Each elemental weapon has its own feel and can be used to deal different amounts of damage to different types of enemies.
Melee Combat in Scars Above
You’ll find a variety of enemy types throughout the map, each of which has its own unique weaknesses and resistances. This makes the combat feel a bit more challenging, and you’ll often be forced to try your hand at scouting out their weaknesses.
Melee Attacks can be effective when you are about to make a killer blow on the enemy or run out of ammo. You can both save your ammo and gain some amount of health (it restores your health with each successful melee kill ability unlocked on the second tier of the Xenobiology skill tree). Scars Above is not too focused on melee combat; however, you can still get help from your hands when you are in miserable situations. Melee combat is
Scars Above Weapons Upgrade
The main leveling mechanism in Scars Above is knowledge points, which act as experience points when collected and can be used to gain skill-ups for upgrades. However, these can be hard to come by if you don’t explore every corner of the map.
Some of these weapons also can be upgraded, giving you even more weapon options for each fight. These weapons are incredibly powerful and can be a real challenge, so you need to know how to plan your attacks carefully.
One of the best things about the weapons in Scars Above is that they don’t just rely on bullet damage. You can upgrade the weapons to do a lot of other damage, like fire damage, ice damage, or acid damage.
This is good, as it helps make each fight more enjoyable. Moreover, these upgrades add to the gameplay because you can choose the right weapon for each type of enemy.
