Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is an exciting new action game from FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment that lets you pilot giant mechs in intense battles with tons of customization options and epic boss fights.
Despite the “VI or 6” in the title, Fire of Rubicon is actually a fresh start for the series. The game takes place on the planet Rubicon, which was devastated by a disaster caused by its most valuable resource, Coral. Years later, the planet is still contaminated and has been abandoned, but the rediscovery of Coral has sparked a new war between various factions. You play as a mercenary called Raven, who is caught up in this massive conflict between megacorporations, military forces, and other groups.
The main focus of Armored Core VI is customizing your mech loadout. You have the ability to adjust various components that affect energy levels, defense, and speed. Additionally, you can equip weapons to four different slots: one in each arm and two on the back, such as multi-lock missiles. Arm weapons include rifles, machine guns, light-saber-like blades, and many others to choose from.
As with previous Armored Core games, success in this battle-heavy series will depend on players tinkering with their highly-customizable ACs and mastering the art of staggering enemies and combining ranged and melee attacks.
In the game, you have the option to design a light and nimble robot that can hover in the air for extended periods, evade enemy attacks, and sustain minimal damage. Alternatively, you can opt for a heavier, slower-moving mech equipped with an arsenal of long-range weapons and formidable melee tools. It is crucial to consider the energy requirements of your mech and balance them against the power generator component.
Although there will be some opportunities for exploration as you navigate through the vast environments, the game will primarily consist of missions similar to the game’s predecessors. At the start of each stage, you will receive a briefing about your mission, including its background and an overview of the objectives you must achieve.
Is Armored Core 6 Open World?
Armored Core 6 is not an open-world game. Although this may be disappointing for some, particularly new FromSoftware fans who discovered the developers through Elden Ring’s The Lands Between, the linear structure will allow players to fully customize their mechs before each mission, ensuring they are fully equipped for battle.

The latest installment in FromSoftware’s mech series, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on the console sides. The game is available on PC via Steam as well.
Are All Armored Core Games Connected?
After a decade since the last Armored Core game was released, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have partnered up to bring a new entry into the series. Fans should note that the story is not continuing from Verdict Day or Armored Core V but rather serves as a reboot for the franchise.
However, FromSoftware had stuck to its roots a bit more than usual with the game, focusing on an emphasis on single-player and not offering any form of co-op play. That said, the game still has a PvP arena and allows players to battle against each other with their custom-tuned mechs.
