Developed by INGAME STUDIOS and published by 505 Games, Crime Boss: Rockay City will release on March 28, 2023, for PC on Epic Games, for PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. When it was first announced during The Game Awards 2022, the game looked like a star-studded send-up of ’90s action films with a hefty helping of Grand Theft Auto.
Described as a “bullet-riddled first-person shooter,” Crime Boss: Rockay City takes place in the fictional city of Rockay City, which is loosely based in Miami and South Florida. The game features a single-player campaign called Baker’s Battle and two cooperative multiplayer modes, Crime Time and Urban Legends.
90s Vibe in Modern Payday-Like Approach
In the single-player story, you’ll meet several characters whose lives have intersected with yours at different points in Rockay City’s history. These include Ropes, Jupiter, and Runaway, each with unique storylines to tell.
As you play, you’ll encounter rival gang members and the Rockay City Police Department as well. These rivals can come after you with their own gangs and can also respond to your crimes with tougher police units, which are deployed depending on the level of chaos you create in the city.
It’s also important to remember that in the single-player campaign, you’ll only be able to unlock new crew members once you complete the missions that introduce them to the city. In order to recruit them, you’ll need money and resources, which you can earn by completing missions.
Hollywood Meets the Gaming One More Time
When the game was announced at the 2022 Game Awards, it featured a star-studded trailer featuring Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill actor Michael Madsen.
Several other characters are also in the cast, including Michael Rooker (Walking Dead, Guardians of Galaxy), Kim Basinger (LA Confidential), and Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover. Action icons Chuck Norris and Danny Trejo are among the voice actors, and Vanilla Ice is set to appear in the game’s “Urban Legends” mode.
