Taking inspiration from folk tales and legends, Ravenswatch drops you into a world where you must destroy emerging nightmares to restore the world’s vibes. Ravenswatch is a top-down roguelike action game that combines intense real-time combat with deep gameplay and high replay value. It’s developed by Passtech Games, the team behind Curse of the Dead Gods.
It takes place in the world of Reverie, which is built around folk tales and legends retold in a dark-fantasy style. You’ll run, fight and complete quests to increase your fighter’s strength, unlock new heroes, and delve into a randomly generated map with a wide range of activities and enemies.
Randomly Generated Map Means Uniqueness
Each run in Ravenswatch puts you and up to three other players into a procedurally generated map where you must fight Nightmare bosses and explore castles, ghouls, and ghosts. All of which shift and refresh as time passes.
However, the current content in Ravenswatch is relatively short when compared to the full version. The 6 heroes on offer are still impressive, though. They all have unique playstyles, but each is built for a particular task, whether that be slashing through enemies or stealing their precious Wishes to turn the tide of battle.
It’s tempting to rush across the map, but even a few mistakes will quickly drain your health. Most enemies telegraph their attacks a few moments in advance, so it’s best to take your time and avoid them as much as possible.
Several points of interest are scattered across the map, offering new abilities, power-ups, and Dream Crystals, a currency that can be spent with the Sandman on the main hub. This will allow you to level up faster and get better equipped for the big Nightmare boss at the end of each run.
6 Different Heroes, Each Unique in All Ways
The game is set in a dark fantasy world called Reverie. Here, monsters from folk tales and legends are destroying the land, corrupting everything around them. It’s up to you to fight back against the Nightmares and help free the town from their clutches.
The main draw of Ravenswatch is the characters you can play as, which are all twisted versions of folklore heroes from different eras and countries. In the Early Access version of the game, players can choose from six different heroes, each with their own unique playstyles and abilities. You can play Scarlet the Little Red Riding Hood, Beowulf, The Pied Piper of Hamlin, Aladdin, the Snow Queen, and Melusine the Siren.
For example, Scarlet is a werewolf who can transform into a human at night and revert to her furry form at dawn. She has three different abilities; a defensive one, a basic attack, and a cloak that makes her intangible and incapable of being targeted for a couple of seconds. She can also combine her cloak with her Swift Strike or Bite ability to deal massive damage while hiding from enemies.
Play Ravenswatch With Your Friends
Another great feature of Ravenswatch is that you can play it solo or with up to four friends in co-op on Steam. Playing such kinds of games in co-op modes is always fun.
