Developed by DarkGaming Studios, Sonic Smackdown is a free-to-play 2D fighting indie game inspired by Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. But, unlike the other fighting games, it uses 14 fans’ favorite SEGA’s Sonic characters, such as Sonic, Knuckles, and the rest of the team.
There are three game modes in this game, including arcade, versus, and entertainment. In Arcade Mode, you are choosing a character and trying to beat all the other characters up. Versus Mode is an in-game mode that lets you battle against your friend. You can use this mode for a two-player fight with your friend. Entertainment Mode is another in-game mode where you have no purpose. You can only play just for fun in this mode.
Another interesting aspect of the game is customization. There are over 180 alternate skins in this game. So, you can customize your favorite character and fight with the character you create.
Earning health back is also possible with the unique ring mechanic. It has rings just like in the original Sonic games. These rings are within your competitors and within you. The harder you hit your opponent, the more rings you will pour, and you will fill the health bar.
