Finally, after a long wait, one of the biggest fighting game franchises, Street Fighter, was released on June 2, 2023, by Capcom. The game has a “Modern” control method that makes it easier for players to enjoy, even if they’re not familiar with the fighting genre.
The game features a slew of modes, including a single-player campaign, the new Fighting Ground, and Battle Hub. It also runs on Capcom’s RE Engine, which makes for a more realistic and immersive experience.
One of the interesting additions is the Modern Control Type, which combines classic control methods with simpler inputs. This should help make the game more accessible for new players.
Differences From Its Predecessors
The game’s main fighting gameplay has been overhauled with a new system, the Drive Gauge, designed to encourage players’ creativity. You can now use one gauge to perform five different techniques, which can be combined and canceled to create a variety of combos.
Capcom is also lowering the barriers to entry, including simpler inputs and accessibility settings for beginners.
The game will also feature real-time commentators (Jeremy’ Vicious’ Lopez and Aru in English, with more to be confirmed) who will provide play-by-play during matches.
Street Fighter 6 also launched with a larger roster than its predecessor, featuring 12 characters from previous titles and six brand-new additions.
It will also feature a suite of modes, ranging from arcade mode mini-games to the eponymous World Tour.
Street Fighter 6 Gameplay
The gameplay for Street Fighter 6 has been showcased in several videos, including a high-octane announcement trailer. The game features a new character named Kimberly, who trains under Guy and is set to surpass him as the 39th successor to Bushinryu.
The game also introduces a Modern Control Type designed to make the combat more accessible for new players. It simplifies the process of pressing multiple buttons to perform special moves and focuses on precision.
SF6 also features the Drive System, which allows characters to use attacks based on the position of their meter. If they spend all of their meters, they’ll enter Burnout, which causes various disadvantages until the meter is recovered.
The Battle Hub is a social area where you can play against other players or the computer in one-on-one versus matches. You can also play in Extreme Battle, which offers a curated set of rules and fun gimmicks.
