Atomic Heart Released Here Is What You Need to Know

Set in a futuristic Soviet world, Mundfish Games' Atomic Heart was released on February 21, 2023. Here's everything you need to know about this charming FPS title.

Atomic Heart takes place in a futuristic Soviet world where a form of artificial intelligence (AI) has replaced the working class. Then, an AI initiative goes wrong. The story seems a bit cliché, but it is not over yet. The story centers on Major Sergei Nechaev, an agent of inventor Dmitry Sechenov who is sent to a sprawling research facility 3826 to quell a rogue army of robots. Throughout the game, you fight through a variety of environments that have been rendered with impressive detail, fantastic architectural places, and complexity.

A KGB special agent, P-3, is sent to investigate an experimental facility in the Soviet Union that has gone rogue. These bio-engineering experiments have taken over a manufacturing facility, leaving P-3 to fight through mind-bending horrors while trying to find out what happened.

Atomic Heart Lore Draws Attention With Its Fantastic Atmosphere

A lot of lore is infused into the world of Atomic Heart, and it’s all a part of what makes the game so compelling. Everything in this world is designed with attention to detail and atmosphere, from the colossal statues to the soaring skyboxes to the creepy underground complexes.

As you explore the world, you’ll encounter various creatures and robots that can kill you in seconds if you don’t know what you’re doing. These enemies are known as Krasnye and come in various shapes and sizes. Some are small, spider-like creatures that move quickly and attack in swarms, while others are large, hulking robots with powerful attacks.

Atomic Heart Composer

Mick Gordon, an Australian composer known for his previous works like BioshockDishonoredDOOM, and Prey franchises, is also the composer of Atomic Heart. He says he’s a big fan of the game, as it has a unique aesthetic that he says was an “absolute delight” to work on. He also says the Russian developer was a great company to work for and looks forward to seeing more collaborations in the future.

The game’s composer Mick Gordon has put his support behind the people of Ukraine after Russia’s war against their country. The video game composer has announced that he will donate his entire fee from Atomic Heart to the Australian Red Cross’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Atomic Heart Controversy

The controversial video game Atomic Heart has been causing quite a stir lately, with players and critics arguing over its content and whether it is intended to be Russian propaganda. The game is based on an alternate history in which Russia discovers a mysterious material that allows for the technological advancement of humanity, but it also creates machines that can turn against their creators.

There have been many concerns over the ties between the Russian government and the developers of Atomic Heart and their connection to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The studio behind the game, Mundfish, is based in Cyprus but is known to have many Russian investors.

One of the most recent concerns has centered around the game’s female robot twins, which have an eerie resemblance to former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The twins are 9-foot-tall ballerina robots with form-fitting skins and extendable claws, and they are seen throughout the trailers, advertisements, and even in gameplay for Atomic Heart.

Another issue has been the presence of racist imagery in the game. For example, a scene in the safe rooms shows a Soviet children’s cartoon called Nu Pogodi! It is said that the cartoon smacks of the same racism as Disney and Popeye cartoons featuring indigenous people.

Thankfully, the developers have addressed some of these issues by releasing an apology and promising to remove the offending clip from the game. However, it’s still important to consider the broader implications of the atomic heart controversy before purchasing the game.
