Fire Emblem Engage pays tribute to some of the series’ fan favorites and introduces new characters as well. One of the recent tactical RPG adventure titles, Fire Emblem Engage features a cast of characters, many of which are recognizable from previous games. This new cast of heroes is largely focused on the militaristic side of the battle and includes summoned warriors from past Fire Emblem titles that you can use to help turn the tide of battle. As a result, you’ll find yourself constantly summoning heroes to help you out – as long as you remember to activate them at the right moment. While summoned heroes only last a short handful of turns, they can still be a valuable addition to your roster.
How Does the Character System in Fire Emblem Engage Work?
Each summoned hero in Fire Emblem Engage will have a specific stat bonus and skill they can use. This allows you to create a more powerful squad of characters than before, but you’ll have to make sure you don’t end up activating too many at once.
The other big change to the game is that it has a lot more variety in how you interact with your party. While Three Houses gave you a concrete group of students to instruct, train, and fall in love with throughout your campaign, Engage returns to the old strategy formula of hurling new recruits at you as you travel through the world map.
While most of the newcomers are fighters, there are a few who are more focused on interacting with their environment. In addition to fighting, some of these characters can also take on the form of a Divine Dragon to attack enemies. This is a new feature to the series, and it should be an interesting addition.
If you want to get the most out of your squad, it’s best to look for characters with high speed and mobility. This will enable you to reach further locations in the battleground and break enemies’ defenses with their attacks.
What are the Characters in Fire Emblem Engage?
There are 37 playable characters in Fire Emblem Engage, each with its specific features. These include their personality, in-game nature, battle skills, and base and growth stats.
- The main hero of Fire Emblem Engage is Alear, who has a mix of blue and red hair. She’s a dragon child who sleeps for one thousand years and is now back on Elyos to save her kingdom from the Fell Dragon, a powerful enemy who threatens peace. Her dragon powers are a unique asset in her fight against the Fell Dragon, but she’s also capable of using deadly weapons and sharp swords to combat enemies. She’s a strong support character who can be a great addition to any team because of her versatility and power.
- Another great supporting character is Hortensia, a princess from the kingdom of Elusia. She’s a magic user that can ride a pegasus and has a playful, energetic personality.
- While she only makes a few appearances throughout the game, her presence is certainly memorable. Her sister, Ivy, convinces her to change sides and join the good side with Byleth. She’s a Lord class character with an affinity for bow weapons and carries a lance in her weaponry. She’s a solid returning hero from the Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, so she’s not a surprise to see in Engage.
- There are plenty of other heroes to choose from as well, including Alfred, a Prince of the Kingdom of Firene who wields an axe, and Louis, a lance armor user who flies with a pegasus.
- Alternatively, players can opt to summon Ike and Corrin from Fire Emblem Path of Radiance for the GameCube system. Both are mercenary characters who follow their own rules and do their best to complete their missions.
- Several other characters also make a special appearance, like Roy from Fire Emblem Gaiden, which debuted on the NES in 1992.
