River City Girls 2 is the sequel to the beat-’em-up brawler. The game has improved combat and introduced new characters and locations. There are several side quests to complete as well. It is expected to be released in North America and Asia in December 2022.
The opening animated motion comic introduces the players to the game’s plot. Although it is short, the animated intro has a catchy tune that sets the tone for the rest of the game.
River City Girls 2 also has an excellent soundtrack. Each area of the city has its own soundtrack reflecting the story’s atmosphere. In addition to that, there are vocal tracks for the bosses.
What’s the Story of River City Girls 2
The story in River City Girls 2 is just as simple as it was in the first game and follows the adventures of two female characters: Misako and Kyoko. After Misako and Kyoko beat up a Yakuza boss’s daughter in the last game, the boss decides to get even. He sends his goons and other family members to find Misako and Kyoko, causing chaos all over River City in the process. So, it’s up to the girls, their boyfriends Kunio and Riki, and a couple of new playable friends, Provie and Marian, to stop them.
The game’s story is reminiscent of Double Dragon, the legendary NES game from the 80s and 90s. Double Dragon games have been an inspiration for the whole River City Girls franchise in terms of their gameplay, story, and concept. You can also notice that the soundtracks of River City Girls make the same kind of impression on those who play the game.
