Support Heroes in MOBA Games

Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games have been around for a while now, and the role of support heroes in these games is often overlooked. These unsung heroes play a pivotal role in the success of any team, as they don’t overpower enemies with brute force but rather empower their allies, control the battlefield, and ensure team survival.

Support heroes form the backbone of any team, using their abilities to heal wounds, shield their team members from harm, and enhance their fighting capabilities. Unlike their fighter counterparts, support characters prioritize the well-being and effectiveness of their team members over personal glory. Their success is measured by the number of assists and pivotal saves that can turn the tide of battle rather than the number of kills.

The true strength of a support hero lies in their ability to control the flow of the game. Through vision control, crowd control abilities, and utility skills like teleportation or invulnerability granting, supports dictate engagements, disengagements, and, ultimately, the pace of the game. Their strategic placement of wards and ability to secure objectives like the Dragon or Baron Nashor in games like League of Legends or Roshan in Dota 2 can be game-changing. It’s no exaggeration to say that a well-played support hero can make all the difference between victory and defeat.

In Predecessor and other MOBA titles, certain support heroes have become legendary for their game-altering abilities. Now let’s take a look at each Predecessor Support Heroes:

Dekker – Scientific Supporter

Dekker is characterized as a beginner-level support hero known for her control and safeguarding capabilities. Dekker helps you gain control in battles by using her energy domes and stuns. She can protect your allies and trap your enemies, changing the course of the battle. Her skill set includes Rocket Boots, Energy Orb, Stasis Bomb, Photon Disruptor, Containment Fence, and Ion Strike. These abilities make her a formidable force in shifting the tides of battle in favor of her team.

When you use Dekker’s special move, Ion Strike, it summons a bot above a targeted location. After a short delay, it blasts the ground, causing magical damage of 160 (+75%). Enemies hit by it are slowed by 50% for 1.5 seconds. If enemies are caught in the center, they are stunned instead.

Narbash, a beginner-level hero, stands out as a tanky support whose abilities are centered around invigorating allies and disrupting foes. Narbash can boost allies, disrupt enemies, and turn the tide of battle with his rhythmic drums. With skills like Beatdrop, Wallop, Thunk, March, Song Of My People, and Crash Bang Boom, Narbash can significantly influence the battlefield’s rhythm, aiding allies while hindering enemies with his war drums.

Narbash’s special move is called Crash Bang Boom. When you activate this move, you can channel a drum solo for three seconds. This grants Narbash a 25% damage reduction. Additionally, all nearby enemies are slowed by 40% and take 180 magical damage over the course of 10 hits. The amount of damage dealt by each hit increases by 2% per rhythm stack. Each hit also grants two rhythm stacks. On the final hit, all enemies are knocked up and stunned for 1.5 seconds.

Phase – Psychic Lifeline

Phase is an expert-level support hero known for her psychic abilities. Phase’s telekinetic powers can pull allies away from danger while amplifying their abilities. Her abilities include Essence Catalyst, Pulse Bolt, Telekinetic Link, Psychic Flare, Energy Lance, and Hyperflux. This skill set allows her to have a significant impact on team fights, both defensively and offensively.

Hyperflux is Phase’s ultimate power. Phase can boost her own and a partner’s attacks for a temporary period of 8 seconds. During this time, their attack speed is increased by 50%, their ability haste is raised by 30, and their movement speed is boosted by 130%, although this boost fades over time.

Riktor – Chain Warden

Riktor is an advanced-level support hero who can also play the offlane role. His imposing presence on the battlefield comes from his ability to bind and brutalize enemies with his chains. His abilities, such as Riot Shield, Whip, Riplash, Shock Therapy, Electrocute, and Skewer, make him a versatile character capable of controlling the flow of combat.

Riktor’s special power, Skewer, involves releasing a barrage of chains from his body. This attack causes 125 (+50%) magical damage to all Enemies positioned in front of him, as well as Suppressing them for 1.5 seconds. Once the Suppression comes to an end, Riktor pulls the chains back, dealing the same amount of damage again. In addition, using Skewer on an Enemy Hero grants Riktor Riot Shield.

Muriel – Guardian Angel

Muriel is an advanced-level support hero and is a guardian angel who can help you when you need it most. She can shield and support you in times of trouble, providing hope and grace. With her emergency assistance, she can help turn the tide of any battle you may be facing. Her abilities, including Sentinel, Orb, Alacrity, Serenity, Consecrated Ground, and Reversal Of Fortune, allow her to be a beacon of hope on the battlefield, turning the tide of battle with her grace and support.

Muriel’s ability, called “Reversal Of Fortune“, enables her to provide a shield of 400 (+100%) to an Allied Hero, no matter where they are in the world. She then flies to their location, resulting in nearby enemies taking 150 (+50%) magical damages and being knocked up for 0.5 seconds.
